I think I may be dyscalculic; how can I be sure for certain?

For years now (since elementary school) I've been troubled by numbers and mathematics. Simple arithmetic problems give me problems.

I'm currently an senior advanced placement student in high school facing the danger of not graduating because I cannot pass algebra and geometry; yet I'm academically advanced in other subjects.

I recently found out of dyscalculia--the difficulty in understanding mathematics, and I was wondering if anyone had any advice as to whom I could see to find out if I was dyscalculic and I'm looking for any advice from other dyscalculics.

There is a section for online diagnosis, but don't put too much store by online tests. Ideally you should do a series of tests, administered by a psychologist who specialises in learning disorders.
In UK this should be available through your school or college. I don't know about USA., (sorry), but your tutors or your doctor shold be able to advise.

algebra fourth edition
can anyone tell me how to solve mixture problems in College Algebra?

i have been doing this math problem, a mixture problem, for a month and cannot get this problem. The problem is found in Mark Dugopolski's book--college algebra the fourth edition, Problem #53, page 109

man do you expect everyone to have access to the book?? atleast post a picture of the question somewhere!

What are my chances of getting in certain high school?

Ok, i am an 8th grade student in the CPS (chicago public schools).

The highschools grade us out of 1000 points based on grades, isats scores, attendance, and entrance exam.

the total possible without the entrance exam is 700. i got a 535.

Is that ok? i want to get into Walter payton,whitney young, or jones.

I messed up in 7th in math (i got a C) but this year im taking 9th grade algebra (in addition to my 8th grade pre-algebra.)

What are my chance of getting into my top 3 schools?

P.S. I have done community service and participate in my schools Garden club (my community service) and my schools academic bowl team.

Well, if you were just taking pre-algebra, which I took in 6th grade, I'd say you have very little chance at getting into a "prestigous school." Showing the initiative of taking another math class though may impress them. Don't expect a lot of answers, you're asking an extremely specific question. Maybe theres a CPS forum you can ask on

I have to learn and finish Pre-Calculus before the end of summer?

I was suppose to take Pre-Cal last year when I was a junior, but I got scared that it would lower my GPA and that I wouldn't get it, so I just transfered out. I did no math at all last year.

Now, my mom just ordered an online Pre-Cal program and textbook that I have to finish before the end of the summer. I knew this was coming and that I'd have to catch up sometime, but I'm really scared that I'm not going to get it. I barely got through Algebra II, and didn't even know what was going on most of the time. The only reason I passed with B's every semester was because my friends helped me with homework.

I have my old Algebra II book, should I start reviewing that before I start on Pre-Cal? Do you have any advice for me on how I can get through this and get a good grade? I have to be able to test into college Calculus by the beginning of the school year.

HELP ME.

Yeah I would REVIEW the stuff you had TROUBLE with in Algebra 2. It is going to take A TON of effort and studying. So be prepared to devote any and all time that it may take. KEEP YOUR MIND WITH IT! GOOD LUCK!

Elementary Algebra book for teachers question.?

I have the book "Elementary And Intermediate Algebra: A Combined Approach", but it is the teacher copy. I do not need it anymore but would like to see how much they sell for online. I do not have the book with me right now, but I need the ISBN number. Does anyone know how I could figure it out? I tried searching GOOGLE and everything. The author's name is Jerome E. Kaufmann.

Generally, if you go to Amazon and type in the name of the book and author, you should be able to find it.
ISBN is usually located near the barcode of the book.
Be sure when you find it that you specify teacher copy.

Half.com is probably your best bet, even E-bay since you can place a bid. I did that throughout college and got a lot of stuff dirt cheap since the school bookstore was such a rip-off.

I'm terrible at Mathematics beyond basic algebra, what resources or books can I read to face my shortcomings?

Mathmatics past the basic algebra stage, scares me to death. I get nervous registering for math classes. I am proficent in History, the Sciences, Lit and Comp, but I fall short in math. I test below college level(ahh!), and have trouble in the classes that should help catch me up. What does anyone recommend (besides tutoring) so I can try to teach myself, and regain my confidence? Any books or guides that have helped you or someone you know?
wikipedia was a great suggestion, but I just about had a panic attack when all the topics and subheadings came up.
I guess it overwhelms me.
Are there any step by step programs available to teach myself before I pay for another class I might not do well in?

EPGY is a Stanford program that offers computer courses on mathematics with a professor as a correspondent if you need help. It's a program I have used many times. Lectures are given with audio and written down on the computer screen by the tutor, and you can rewind whenever you want. It is rather expensive though.

That's all I can give credible information on, I remember I had a book that was something like a math encyclopedia, but I can't remember the name of it now. Besides that, I know you said no tutoring, but if you find the right tutor (someone your age) it can help you immensly.

Test results show Clark County School District students are making progress on first-semester math tests. The first-semester results show 21 percent of high school students passed the algebra 1 test and 43 percent passed the exam for geometry in 2009-10.
