Was France important during the American Revolution?
During the American Revolution the Americans needed help they sent Benjamin Franklin to France to form an alliance with France's King Louis XVI. At first France sent supplies to America muskets, pistols, ships, drums, food, money, and many more supplies. The French government spent over $31,000,000.00 on the revolution. Later American General Washington and French General Lafayette got an army ready to attack British General Cornwallis at Yorktown. Also French Admiral De Grasse blockaded by the york river to the north stopping a British fleet from retrieving Cornwallis. The Americans and French won the battle capturing Cornwallis and around 7,000 British soilders. Yorktown was the last major battle of the war. I think the French were important to us in the war what do you think?
We've returned the favor on two occasions.
Where Does Israel's Ambush Leave Obama?
Israel's government was over-the-top outrageous in welcoming Vice President Joe Biden with the news that it would construct 1600 new illegal housing units on land the Palestinians consider their future capital in East Jerusalem

What is your FULL open honest opinion of the American Legal System?
How do you as a person feel about it?
Any experiences that you may know of that you would like to share?
I am doing a essay for Mock Trial and I need opinions of others to cite in the paper. I am having a VERRRY tough time. I have 600 words & need another 300 or so =[[
Please please help me.
You will be cited. Dont worry
10 pts to the best answer that I recieve
We search for justice but we get law....the legal system is fully distorted because alot of it is based on one indivduals moods and ethics no matter how good the laws are to protect it. It all boils down to the judge in most cases which I have found the majority of Judges in this country are anything but just...and then you have the lawyers...again..it is a big game of who can get the most money in their pocket...no matter if you are supposed to be helping the person or not...several times you will find the people who strive sooooo hard to get justice...and win, most of the time with all they have gone... loose to rest to the lawyer. If you are not aware of the laws and the ways of the court you are a sitting duck for a slick lawyer to walk away with your workmans comp case winnings or inherentance of your family...it happens time and again, after going to the board to go against a lawyer you will find it is virtually impossible even when the truth and facts clearly put him as the crook...and in most other cases when you go to court and win your case...if you study the statistics you will find very few people recieve the money they have won in the case...if it hasnt been stolen by the lawyer already...then on the criminal end...our system puts molesters, murderers, and theifs in jail for so many years and lets them years before they serve the proper time for the crimeand get out to commit crimes again..and again...and if you get on the bad side of a judge..an innocent person can go to prision for the rest of his or her lives...our system is sorely lacking justice...morals, and God in the courts...you can tell by how messed up America is. There is case after case to prove how messed up it is...for the most part the average American will not get justice or legal satisfaction thru the courts...or lawyers...it doesnt help.

Open Source Food and Genetic Engineering - Michael Pollan
modern american history
What are the characteristics of modern Native American culture?
I am a German student and have an imporant oral exam tomorrow.
I read a lot about the Indians and their history, but I couldn't really find something about their life today.
What is special about their everyday life? What traces of their culture can be found in Indians who life in big cities?
Thank you for your help?
Whooo. That's a tough one. It's like summarizing ALL of European culture in one or two sentences. You can say what the Germans do and the Italians do and the English do and what the Swedish do, but those are NOT the same thing, not at all.
Okay. Special about everyday life. Some folks still practice tribal religion, which is a very private thing. Many still live in poverty on reservations. There's a high rate of alcoholism and diabetes, both of which are genetically based but have high environmental factors. There's a lot of racism and bigotry in various tribes against non-Indians. Uhm. . .there's a sense of tribal belonging. Family is really, really important. More important than anything.
I live in a fairly big city and have for years and years. Uhm. . .my extended family is still important to me, even though they irritate the snot out of me. I collect American Indian art and antiques and heirlooms, so that's with me, and I respect the artisans that made these things in a real tangible way, because I feel like they put themselves into it - not just in a symbolic way the way White seem to feel, but in a real pouring of themselves into something beautiful. It's hard to explain. I still love tribal stories and prefer to use them for personal mythic reference than white myths. For example, I won't ever, ever, ever kill a spider, because I remember hearing, very young, about Grandmother Spider!
I've also read a great deal about the stories and myths that were collected from my people at various points and have my own ideas about the formation of our tribe.
Oh, oh oh! I nearly forgot! STICKBALL and POW-WOWS! Pow-wows are like these big, huge festivals, where all different Indians go. There are dancing and drumming and outfit contests, and sometimes a pagent or two. (Not beauty pageants exactly. I like to think I'm fairly attractive, but I never did too well at the pageants. I understand now why - I'd suck as a representative of my tribe!) There are all sorts of different dancing types and regional dances and every tribe has their own costume or "traditional dress". (No, I don't wear ours. No I never will. It's tacky in a Little-House-on-the-Prairie way. Like I said, I would soooooo SUCK at being a representative of the tribe.) There's all this great food that's really bad for you and there are booths with all sorts of carp. There's also stickball, which is now just a game, but a mean game. (Stickball players are HOT. Mostly.) Stickball is like Lacrosse, but meaner and funner!
What else???? Uhm, there's a lot of pressure to marry within the American Indian community at the very least.
My own family isn't this way, but in some families, (a lot of them) the women are the breadwinners. The men work construction or something like that. Old people are very, very respected (that IS true in my own family) even when it isn't deserved. There's a really strong sense of community and belonging and caring. And jealousy and fear and poverty.
There used to not be much of a focus on education, but that's changing. In my own family, my parents sent ALL their kids to college and the schools where I was raised are now pretty good. (Thank you White Gamblers! Thank you for the hospital and the addiction centers and the daycare centers and the stuff for old people too!)
I don't define myself soley by my ancestors. I'm a very good DBA and I'm happy and employed. I'd like to get married and make little 'breeds. I get called "apple" or worse sometimes, but I shrug that off pretty easily. Still, I do respect my ancestors and all the sorrows and tragedies that they went through, while still remaining honorable, good, generous people.
Does any of that help?

Montage - The Best and Worst of American History
north american indians
North American Indians loss of freedom/independence due to colonization?
Did the North American Indians lose their freedom/independence due to European colonization? And if so, how?
Thanks (:
By genocide.
More indians died from smallpox and other infectious diseases introduced by Europeans, for which they had no immunity built up in their systems, than from all the "Indian Wars" combined. Whole tribes became extinct in a matter of years, and 90% were killed by diseases before the Indian Wars even began.
Often, they caught these diseases from infected blankets that were deliberately given to them.
None of the historic period Indian cultures of Florida survive today. The Seminole were originally of Creek stock, from Georgia and Alabama. They began to move into Florida during the 1700’s, living in the spaces that Florida Indians had left behind.
As many as 10 MILLION native americans organized into more than 1,000 tribes, many living in cities of 10,000 or more, lived in the Americas north of Mexico when the Europeans came. The indian population was about 300,000 when the last tribes went onto reservations.
By Wars and Forced Removals
A likely total of 100,000-500,000 Native Americans in the U.S. have died since 1776. The high end would be around a million. While the Indian conflicts of the 1700-1800s were highly played up in the American press, not that many people were actually killed in those battles.
Here are some examples of the numbers of native americans killed in famous Indian Wars and forced removals:
Indians Conflicts & Removals 1776-1973
(1973) Wounded Knee II - 2
(1890) Wounded Knee - 178
(1864) Sand Creek Massacre - 200
(1862) Dakota War of 1862 - 13 killed in battles, 38 prisoners executed
(1876) Battle of Little Big Horn - 136 (high estimate)
(1838) Cherokee Removal - 4,000
(1817-58) Seminole Wars I,II, & III - 1475 (likely high as 10,000)
(1831) Choctaw Removal - 2,500
(1812) Red Stick War of the Muscogee or Creek- 3,000
(1791) Battle of the Wabash - 21
By starvation.
Most of the buffalo hunters were hired by the US Government to deliberately wipe out the primary food source of the Plains Indians. In a period of less than 20 years, the free american bison went from 60 MILLION to less than 1,000. By the end of the century, there were only 25 known purebred bison left in the wild when President Roosevelt created the Yellowstone Park and they were given sanctuary in the park.
At the same time, other game also diminished due to destruction of habitat as forests were cut down for lumber, and over hunting due to higher concentrations of people, and game lands were converted to agricultural use by the pioneers.
During the early reservation era, the majority of the Indian Agents were opportunistic theives who stole most of the cattle and other foodstuff the government provided for Indians who went onto reservations. As many as 40% of the people put on reservations by force starved in the first year.
By Loss of Culture
Indian children as young as five were forcibly taken from their families and sent to boarding schools under the guise of education. However, the real reason was to break the chain of tradition and values in the Indian cultures. At the boarding schools they were forbidden and severely punished for speaking in their native languages, or practicing their religion.
As late as the 1970s there were federal laws prohibiting the practice of native religions, although our constitution guarantees freedom of religion. The boarding schools were in operation as late as the 1960s.
Some indians took their culture undergound and continued to uphold their ancient ceremonies and religious beliefs. Today, they are known as Traditionalists. However, the majority eventually acclimated to Anglo culture and religious beliefs. Today, slightly more than half of all Native Americans in the US live off reservation, and have the same lifestyles and beliefs as the rest of mainstream Americans.
By Imminent Domain
None of the treaties made with the native americans of North America were ever completely honored. Most of their land was taken by force or trickery. Just as the government can seize your property today, and pay you whatever they want to for it, if they want to build a dam or highway "for the greater good," whenever the colonials needed more land, they just took it, and if the natives resisted, they were either killed, starved or driven ever farther West until eventually there was no place else to go.
By Poverty
The poverty levels on many american reservations rival third world countries. Some reservations have unemployment rates as high as 80%, and most have rates 5-10 times higher than non-reservation areas. This forces many native americans to rely on underfunded government programs for (mostly sub-standard) food, shelter, education, law enforcement, and healthcare. On the poorer reservations, half of reservation homes don't have phones, 1/3 don't have electricity, 1/4 don't have running water, refridgeration, or a central heating system, and 90% don't have internet access. Approximately 25% of the reservation populations are homeless, compared to about 10% for the rest of the US.

How to fake a red cross cpr+aed card?
Okay, sounds sketch, but I swear I'm certified. I need to show my cpr card for a personal trainer test and I can't find it. I would reschedule but they are being nazi's about rescheduling. I've been CPR certified for about 5 years and have taken 4 different CPR and first aid classes, and it's a huge bummer to be SoL now. Any advice?
PS online tests don't count, it has to be red cross, american heart, st. john's ambulance, or american health and safety institute.
Nah the only thing you are given is the card, and unfortunately I don't have time to get it replaced.
The course itself is not hard, the 1 day courses I've taken were simple just tedious. The last time I took it was part of a school class at college, and it was more difficult because instead of an 8 hour class one day it became a 4 hour a week class for 10 weeks, and everything got way more in depth.
Seriously, don't do it. Get in touch with the organization that issued the card and ask for a replacement. Forging such things is actually illegal, whether you have the right to have the card or not. The potential risks are much greater than the benefits.
Graceway Announces Journal Of The American Academy Of Dermatology Publishes Articles On New Short-Course Imiquimod ...
The Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology (JAAD) has published Phase III data evaluating the safety and efficacy of imiquimod cream at two doses - 2.5% and 3.75% - administered daily on either 2-week or 3-week treatment cycles. While all study arms met the primary endpoint of complete clearance versus placebo, data suggest that, of the regimens studied, imiquimod 3.75% on a 2-week cycle ...

logic american politics
How do I know which presidential candidate is right for me?
I'm a 25 year old, married, home-owning American citizen and am quickly discovering that politics is complicated! I want to choose the best candidate, but where is the best place to get unbiased information? I watch the news regularly and try to research on the internet but always seem to get opinions or "answers" to my questions that are too complicated to understand. Many family members and friends that I've talked with (who've been voting for several years now) don't even seem to understand the issues and basically vote for superficial reasons. I want answers based on logic and history, what would REALLY work for the economy? Commercials and politicians on network stations don't convince me -I don't want to hear "Obama will raise taxes, McCain will lower them" or vice versa. Obviously both plans are legitimate or they wouldn't have even been proposed. I want to know the pros and cons of each and then form my own opinion. Any helpful websites, books, or programs?
I use the sites below for most of my info. Mainstream media is ok for stories, but are usually biased. Stay away from blogs. These websites are probably the most non-partisan you'll find.

As you can see from the answers here, Y!A is the worst place for unbiased political information.
Jonathan Weiler: John Roberts' Troubled Psyche
Sometimes high-profile public figures do reveal something meaningful about themselves. John Roberts' concern over the fact that he had to sit "expressionless" while Obama criticized the Citizens' United ruling is one of them.

Must all Tibetans study american history .. to learn what happened when natives started attacking settlers ?
we all have watched lots of cowboy movies to know ....... settlers will always beat the living daylights of the natives when provoked.
Well, I can tell you what happened. the Europens kept coming over and taking over more and more land and cheating the Indians in trades and treaties. The Indians started fighting over the Europeans taking their hunting grounds and sacred mountains and their fishing and hunting areas. But, the Indians were not united at all. They each had their own unique culture and their own religion and their own language plus they would fight each other so they lost it all.

American sports club that define/shape American history?
Help!
I have to write an essay where I discuss a professional American sports club (football, baseball, basketball, hockey) that somehow tied in closely with American political/cultural development. It's preferably a club that has a huge, interesting fan base that has a lot of distinctive characteristics so I can comment about it a lot.
Also preferable are any that have had major racial issues/breakthroughs. I was thinking Jackie Robinson (I forgot what team he played for)? As long as it can somehow, on some level, "represent" some major struggle or period of time in US history that has really defined America.
Please help, I really appreciate it!!
thatll work good for an essay, lots of info to work with. he played for the dodgers. if it were me though, id go with ty cobb

Kevin Youkilis: Narrow World of Sports
american education publishing
why do universities ignore undergraduates who complain about foreign TAs?
George Borjas published some research finding that foreign TAs don't teach effectively and they lower the grades of the students in the class. Since the grading was done in a blind fashion, he concludes that foreign teaching assistants lower the educational quality of the classroom.
Since research supports the undergraduates assessments, why don't universities stop using so many foreign Teaching Assistants?
Borjas' explanation is that the universities want to save money and foreign TAs lower costs. The universities are switching money from the workers and American students to themselves, and the education of undergraduates suffers in the process.
TAs would be paid better if universities didn't import foreign students who were more willing to accept lower wages. The importation of lower wage foreign students drives down wages for domestic TAs.
